Believe it or Not… COVID Made us Better (Memoir)

2020 was definitely an interesting year. One that if we could, we would all forget. The chances of it being wiped from memory are very minimal. From school being cancelled to no toilet paper to wearing masks, there is something to remember. Like it or not, we grew from this situation, especially myself.

School was very different this year. Our school started online and then went hybrid, back to online, and then hybrid, and now in a few weeks, we’re going back full day in person. School has been so hard for everyone from students to parents to teachers.

What School May Look like Now with COVID-19

Parents have a lot to deal with. They have to make sure that their kids are doing assignments that are given to them, even when there is no motivation there. Communication with teachers is very difficult as well right now. Parents want what school used to be, they want how grades used to be, and it is not given to them.

Teachers have it very badly. They are trying to ensure good communication with students, parents, and other teachers. There is such a lack of motivation from students. Teachers also have dealt with the ever changing schedule and plans of how school is going to go. Many teachers are teaching in-person school as well as online school. You can only imagine how hard navigating through that may be.

Lastly, the students. They have to go through an ever changing cycle of the unknown. They never know when their schedule will change and it seems like there is a load of homework that at some point, just becomes unmanageable. With it being this difficult, there was no motivation from the students to complete the school work given to them, making it that much harder. I know as a student myself, it is extremely stressful when there is a non-stop push and pull of what school will be like during this.

School is only one aspect of this whole pandemic. Lets not forget when we were quarantined for well over two months, and for some other states or countries, way longer than that. Quarantine was a time to be by yourself, whether you liked it or not, there was no choice if you quarantined or not.

People got very creative with what they did while in quarantine. They baked new recipes, started a new workout routine, went for walks, and a multitude of many different things that one could do while sitting at their house all day.

My experience at least, made me a better person. I was given the opportunity to truly find what I liked to do with no time frame on it. I started working out, watching what I eat, golfing everyday, and so much more. I was able to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my high school career and maybe even the rest of my life, and no matter how much I was bored or upset at the time, I realized that was a time that I needed and it made me transform into a better person.
