Should we go in School Full Time? (Persuasive)

School has been an up in the air thing this year over and over again. The Olathe School District has recently decided to go back to school in person Full day. There has been quite the controversy over this because of everything that has happened this year.

With the decision to go back full time, a lot comes with that decision and there is so much to consider. How will lunch work? Will school be more “normal”? A lot goes through my head when I think about being at school all day. That in itself, is very strange. Who would have thought that we would be thinking that it’s weird to go to school all day.

School is going to very different from how it normally is. In a normal year, we would have seven classes a day and then two days a week, we would have block schedule. Block schedule is when you would have half your classes, but for double the amount of time. When going back all day, we will be doing block schedule everyday and all day. Lunch period is also going to be very different from the normal. We will only have twenty-five minute lunch periods rather than our normal fifty-minute period where we were able to eat and get help from teachers if we wanted it.

When we are in school all day, and in one class for such a log amount of time. It is going to be very hard to stay focused and on-task. Many would say that the half-days we are doing right now are far more beneficial than what the full-days will be. Many would also say that the “fun” part of school is being taken away. We are no longer able to socialize like normal or have a break in the middle of the day to get our mind off school.

I have not even mentioned the safety precautions that have up to 1,800 kids in one school at a time will bring. Many teachers are high-risk and even students may be so it may be very dangerous to have that many people at the school. It is also going to be very hard to social distance in the hallways, in the classrooms, and at lunch.

School this whole year has been very different from the rest and it continues to be an adjustment for everyone. I can only imagine how going back to school will affect students and teachers, as we have not done that for a very long time. This will be new to everyone and it will be fun, but interesting to see how school is run and how everyone does their best to keep students and teachers safe.
